“Helen”, she pleaded, “I really want you to help me with this”
I connected with a deep sincerity in her words, yet something nagged at me from deep within.
“I feel like it’s my calling and I want you to help me speak my truth because I know I must do this, I must share my story with other women to help them break the silence”.
Still that niggling feeling irked me …enough to speak out…
“Well that’s beautiful”, I said. “It’s just that its also really important to fully heal from the past so you can stand strong in this kind of mission”
“I’ve worked so much on it, you know, I know I can do it”, she insisted.
“I agree, and still I can support you and fully elevate your power in celebration of you once we both feel like you’re emotionally ready, because… “
Then this is where I started explaining the immense gift of sharing the lessons and wisdom of our deepest wound as speakers with this specific distinction :
“The point is to do enough healing work so that when you’re on stage, you share from the SCAR NOT THE WOUND… This takes some time and emotional alignment”.
We began our year of deep dive therapy into the sexual abuse, betrayal by her father. Just recently she travelled home to ‘forgive and resolve’ her relationship with her mother, also a rape survivor , after her debut speech on my last WOMEN OF TRUTH stage on island Cyprus.
As a speaker curator and coach I know original content, authentic content and I’m especially tuned into the emotional maturity of a speaker and why they share. That’s why the 170 women I have put on stage come from intuitive and critically considered decision to showcase amazing expertise or personal victory that has a grounded and responsible level of integrity to it. Dignity for the speaker and for those listening. I use my clinical psychology expertise to do this and to underline my training of speakers to harness their sovereignty. Sovereignty that comes from all the AHA moments born from a journey through grief and loss, that reveal deep meaning that transforms them from public speaker into a Paradigm Shifter.
In his great work fueled by camp hero Viktor Frankl’s Logostherapy, Davis Kessler added another stage to the tough job of accepting loss and processing grief, meaning. Meaning and its evolution drives us to survive with AHA’s, fresh perspectives, we realise we’re stronger than we suspected. The downright cruelty of loss provides an opportunity to reason our struggle to find the face of our inner warrior. To confront how success and failure can appear equal in measure, and simply staying just north of sane is a victory.
This is the victory we marvel at when speakers like my last keynote Nina Aouilk Women of the Year Award winner share at my last Cyprus Conference. An attempted Honour Killing by her brother, engineered by her father demonstrated one thing more powerful than meaning. Her choice to survive and do something about it This became her calling.
You need courage to live a calling which can take the deepest breath inside the darkest night of the soul to find. To halt as you let rip a cry from the brutality of living in the modern era and face what life has install for you. Forced to purge our backlogged grief in an unwanted pause, unspoken fears stopping us, we confront life’s sorrow. Those of us made it out of there… the phoenixes, the survivors of darkness are the carriers of new light. Those are the speakers people want to hear from. Those are the ones I put on stage … and not only.
If you’re on your way to greatness after a breakdown, an existential firewalker,. I want to elevate you. If you’re an expert able to shift the paradigm, the same. With a clear vision I want to bring you to global stages, to speak your truth or share your signature style or special brand of magic.
Elated and moved to tears, she fell silent for hours days after her debut speech in Cyprus.
“I felt like I lived my calling up there! “ she said
“Like I lived up to the promise though this whole process with you, I became who I promised myself I would be, before I was born”.
“This way you nurture the ‘anima mundi’ – the world soul – to reclaim her own ancient rhythm through you” I said. “This is the divine calling we are called to follow when we heal and share the gifts of our knowledge and wisdom with the world… In co- creation we elevate into women of truth, and the part of us that can finally become immense”.
