What does it really mean to show up for yourself? When you have disconnected from your truth, the things you believe in, your wants and passions that truly bring out the best in you, you are not showing up for yourself. It could be as simple as not eating healthy when you said you would or not doing your usual workout. Bigger circumstances can be staying in that soul sucking job you hate or that abusive relationship. Whatever your circumstance is, it’s important to be authentic and live the life you were destined to live. After all, no one is going to do that for you.
Let’s face it, sometimes it’s really easy not to show up for our needs. We have families, kids, pets, etc and we have always been taught that it’s selfish to put our needs first. I’m here to tell you that it’s not. Stop listening to that inner voice in your head that may be telling you that. If you are not showing up for yourself, how are you going to show up for the world?
When you actually show up for yourself, relationships start to improve because you are energetically setting boundaries for how you want to be treated. Your health improves because you’re eating healthier and you have committed to exercise more often. Your energy levels go up and most importantly, your self-esteem and self- worth improves. Because of this, you raise your vibrations and release any resistance you once had in your energy field and the Universe can now respond to your wants and needs.
Once you have set your mind to being there for yourself, beautiful things start to open up and happen for you. Maybe you realize you’re not happy where you are, but are unsure of what you want to do in life. Show up for yourself and opportunities will start to appear. You will begin to see signs everywhere because you are now paying attention. Create the life that you truly want. It is never too late so don’t believe that myth. I don’t care if you are earning a 6 figure income and have all the luxuries in the world, if you are not happy doing what you are doing then look for something else. Life is too short. There will always be naysayers in your life and chances are they may be close friends and family, but don’t allow that to deter you. Chase after your dreams and live the life you are destined to live.
“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” Tony Robbins
I was a teacher for 20 years and for the last couple of years in my career, I was so unhappy. I was no longer enjoying what I was doing. When I spoke about leaving, people spoke out of fear, “Oh my gosh, what about your pension? What will you do? What about your benefits?”. I just knew I wasn’t being true to me and living my authentic self. I could feel that sick feeling deep down so I began to ask the Universe what I could do and I saw signs everywhere. I have never been happier doing what I’m doing now, but that’s simply because I showed up for myself and am honouring my inner truth. The Universe is an abundant place and will never let you down. A great book to read is, ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabby Bernstein. She outlines this principle beautifully.
Belief in yourself, determination and tenacity is the only thing that separates successful from unsuccessful people. Time is going to pass anyway, so why not chase your dreams and live the life you want to live. Life is meant to be easy, fun and abundant. It’s our fear based thoughts that make it so difficult for us. Step up, show up, honour yourself and work toward your dream. Your future self will thank you. Anything is possible with when you believe in yourself.
“People who succeed at the highest level are not lucky. They’re doing something differently than everyone else.” Tony Robbins
5 Ways to Show Up for Yourself
1. Do what you said you would do even when you don’t feel like it. Instead of hitting that snooze button, get up, get dressed and head to the gym or meditate. Start your morning off on a positive note.
2. Stay away from toxic people. Accept them for where they are at and send them love. Distance yourself from negativity.
3. Believe in yourself. Even when no one else believes in you and your dreams, you must believe in yourself. That’s the difference between you succeeding and not succeeding.
4. Practice positive thinking. Change your thoughts, change your life. Positive thinking elevates your vibrations and opens up new possibilities in your life.
5. Be kind to yourself. Take a long bath, go for a walk in nature, meditate, exercise. Whatever you love to do, do it. Your inner self will thank you.
