Looking back, I can see how the life itself aligns everything in a perfect way. A couple of years ago I knew I needed a way to find more meaning to my life and although I didn’t know how, I trusted I would find the way. Then the way showed up by itself. Or at least that’s how I understand it.
The minimalist philosophy came to stay and not just as a lifestyle but also in business.
What’s minimalism? My personal definition is that minimalism is to maximize what matters by minimizing what is not essential for YOU. So it’s not just about getting rid of something as to it is knowing first what truly fulfill us. Then by nature, we tend to be away from what doesn’t.
I realized during this journey, that the same principles of minimalism were very similar to my experience and studies in lean & strategic practices in Engineering. Wow! It was surprising… the similarities were very evident. In lean management we learn from philosophies like Kaizen (continuous improvement) and the main objective is to reduce all the unnecessary activities to become more productive.
That’s where my own notion of a minimalist business was born. We minimize in our homes initially to become more organized and streamlined and eventually to realize that the things we considered necessary, are not anymore. In business, we streamline activities that don’t add to the target goal of productivity and profitability and eventually we realize that the profit goal is not even the most important factor. I found an interesting realization in this approach.
The market is flooded with thousands of people offering programs through encouragement for more profits, you know, the 7 figure business. However, how do we know that what we actually need is that 7 figure business? What’s the ground for that goal?
It doesn’t make sense when it’s not aligned with our own personal goals, with our desired lifestyle and our deep aspirations and the most important asset from all: time. I prefer to have more time available than more money as more money is just a recoverable resource, but time?
What are the benefits of a minimalist business?
1. More money: Create more efficiency because you get rid of all the activities that don’t add value, therefore it reduces costs and increases profitability. Achieves consistent results regardless of who is performing the task.
2. Happier team: Motivated collaborators as they know what to expect, are taken into account, encouraged to grow (bc the leader have time to cultivate them, meets with them, attend their real needs, listen to them as friends consistently instead of being operating and avoiding.
3. Happier customers: Customers would be happy because you have a system that is easy to follow for them and through the system you can know what they want, how do they want it and you exceed expectations because it’s your focus and improve delivery every time.
4. Enviro: Streamlined process in place that everyone understand, it’s easy to work with, achieves consistent results regardless of who is performing the task. Its predictable and standardized. Y
BENEFITS FOR YOU:
*BEcome more strategic, focused, efficient, productive because you attend what really matters and instead of working “in” your business, you work “on” your business going from operator to real leader or entrepreneur.
*You know where you’re at and what to do about it at any time. (Fast action, less cost for mistakes). Less stress, exhaustion and last minute fixes (healthier for you, more family time, more freedom).
So now it’s your turn my friend, comment below to learn about your point of view of a minimalist business, I’d really would like to know it.
