As a female business owner, there are days when it feels like a grind. Your business is successful, but the day-to-day tasks can feel overwhelming. You have big dreams! Yet, it’s hard to envision that when you’re bogged down by tedious tasks. You’re looking to maximize productivity and efficiency to take your business to the next level. You want to find joy and that spark in your business again.
I get it I was there as well.
In September 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, just 32 days before my 50th birthday. It was a shock, to say the least, but it turned out to be a pivotal moment for my life and business. (as these things usually are!) I’ve always been organized and task-oriented, thriving with structure and systems. As a 15 year entrepreneur and being intuitive & visionary, it’s easy to get distracted, but I knew that having structure would help my business excel. Not to mention the managing the other “distractions” in my life — a husband and three kids — I needed that framework.
I was in transition mode in my entrepreneurial journey — as I was leaving a 12 year career as a Real Estate agent to become a Business Coach. During that time I had learned amazing systems and structure. After all it was the reason I have built a six-figure business.
However, as I was starting this new chapter, I had lost sight of these systems and how they could drastically change the trajectory of my success. It wasn’t until my cancer diagnosis that I really recognized this and that everything I had learned over the years was going to be such a game changer — ESPECIALLY during my cancer journey.
It took this diagnosis for me to fully embrace and appreciate the tools and strategies that I had been neglecting since I had started my new business. These strategies helped me get through my cancer journey in a way I couldn’t have imagined AND create a business that I’m so passionate about today!
Just like you, I have big plans and ideas, and I’m not about to let them go unfulfilled. I plan to live a full, vibrant, and rich life, taking action on things important to me.
Here are some of the habits that saved me during my cancer journey and kept my business moving forward:
1) Have a Morning Routine
I had started my morning routine several years before my cancer diagnosis. It includes meditating, journaling, reading, and sometimes movement, depending on the day. Without this routine, I would have struggled much more with my diagnosis and the challenges that came with it, like surgery, treatments, body changes, side effects, and illnesses. This simple habit was a huge savior for me.
2) Taking Time to Reflect
Reflection was another big thing during my healing and resting time. Getting rid of things that aren’t serving our growth and impacting our goals positively starts with reflection. This habit helps me determine what’s working and what’s not, in both my business and personal life. It allows me to identify what makes me happy, who makes me happy, and what’s filling my bucket versus what’s not. Letting go can be hard and uncomfortable, but it’s incredibly freeing.
3) Have a Plan
I knew my vision and where I wanted my business to go. I also knew my limitations at the time. For intuitive and creative types, having a plan may seem challenging, but I’m here to tell you that having a plan sets you free to be more productive, creative, and in flow. When we know the direction of our business and the strategic steps to get there, we can truly thrive.
While my cancer diagnosis was a shock and the journey has been rocky, I’m grateful for this eye-opening time. I’ve been able to see my life in full view, learn what’s most important to me, and embrace my core values. Being productive in my business allows me to reach new heights, become wildly successful, and most importantly, show up as my best self for the most important people in my life—my family and friends.
Remember, you can find joy in your business again. Implementing these strategies can help you maximize productivity and efficiency, allowing you to take your business to the next level. You deserve to live a full, vibrant, and rich life, taking action on what’s important to you.
