The Power of Mindset and Support in Business Success
In early June, I took on one of the toughest challenges of my life. Now, considering I’ve beaten breast cancer and survived 10 surgeries over the past four years, you’d think nothing could top that, right? But let me tell you, completing The Reno To Tahoe Odyssey Relay event was a whole different kind of hard.
Why did I do it? Two big reasons: MINDSET and SUPPORT.

Mindset Matters
As an entrepreneur — you know — Mindset is everything when it comes to tackling big goals. Last year, my husband and some friends completed this relay, and their determination inspired me. I thought, “Hey, I can do hard things too!”
But here’s the catch – I wasn’t really prepared. Physically, at least. I had just finished my final reconstructive surgery in January, and I didn’t start training until the end of February. That’s not a lot of time for someone who hadn’t run consistently in almost four years.
Still, I’m stubborn and I believe in my body’s strength. (and I didn’t really want to back out…) After all, it’s gotten me through so much already. So, I signed up for the “easiest” leg of the race:
• 4.3 miles for the first leg
• 3.1 miles for the second leg at 3 am
• 5.5 miles for the third leg, where I had the honor of crossing the finish line
Oh, and did I mention this was at 6200 feet above sea level? And I live at sea level. The altitude was killer. As I prepared for my runs over a 36-hour period, I relied on visualization, positive affirmations, and a killer playlist. Music is my secret weapon.

The Magic of Support
But mindset alone wasn’t enough on that third leg. It was 80 degrees, I hate running in the heat, and I was on a sidewalk in the blazing sun. I needed help, but asking for it wasn’t easy.
Finally, I texted my husband. The moment he told my team I needed help, three amazing teammates rushed to meet me and helped me cross that finish line. That’s what support looks like.
This taught me an important lesson: mindset is crucial, but recognizing when you need help is just as vital. Asking for support isn’t a weakness – it’s a strength. The only reason I finished this race was because of the incredible support from the people in my life.

Lessons for Business
As female entrepreneurs, we face challenges that test us daily. Whether it’s juggling work and life, overcoming setbacks, or pushing through doubts, our mindset and support network are key.

Here are a few takeaways:
1. Keep a Strong Mindset: Believe in yourself and prepare mentally for the challenges. Visualization and positive affirmations can keep you focused and confident.
2. Build Your Support Squad: Surround yourself with people who believe in you and are ready to help when needed. Lean on them – they’re your lifeline.
3. Ask for Help: Don’t be afraid to reach out when you need it. Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. The support you get can make all the difference.
4. Celebrate Wins: No matter how you finish, be proud of your achievements. Reflect on your journey and appreciate how far you’ve come.

By embracing these principles, you can navigate the highs and lows of business with more ease and resilience. It’s not just about how you start or finish, but the mindset and support that carry you through.
I did it, and so can you! Let’s keep lifting each other up and celebrating every win, big or small.
