Have you ever heard of such a thing as Zone of Genius? We are diving deep into it over in the Brand Disruptors Group Coaching Program and I wanted to share with you a bit.

This concept is written about in Gay Hendricks’s book The Big Leap. In his book, he defines Zone of Genius as a set of activities YOU are uniquely suited to do, your special gifts and strengths.

Do you know what yours are? Do you believe this is even a thing?
This week my clients and I are going in deep to discover their Zones of Genius. The only way that we can become the best versions of ourselves is to live a life centered around this concept.

Here’s what I mean by this:
Many of us are doing things that we suck at so that we can save money, especially if you own your own business (am I right?). I know that I have.
I am not very good at the minor details and follow-up. I am not great at sending emails, working out logistics, or being obligated to update my website and all things techy. These are things that are necessary for running a business and maybe even having a job, especially right now.

>> Now that I know and accept this about myself, I will either delegate those tasks or do them first thing in the morning (only if I must).
I then might have some things that I can do and also don’t really find lots of pleasure in it.

This is where all things administrative land for me. I can hire a staff, I can clean my house and I can run errands.

I am good at it and I am pretty organized around how to set all of this up. Do you guys remember when gas was about $5.00 a gallon? This is when I got good at this lol. Anyway, now we have so many “administrative” things that can be done for us, especially during COVID-19. I have been able to delegate a lot of these things, like all shopping, house cleaning, and I even have someone hiring my staff for me.

This has freed up my time for me to do other things and before you go all judgy, let me finish explaining this to you…

I am really excellent at cooking, organizing other’s spaces, styling people, places, and things as well as learning new things.

>> These things come naturally to me but they also take a bit of time because they are not in my Zone of Genius.

My Zone of Genius, however, is the thing that comes so naturally to me, that I often overlook it.

My ability to inspire others, think deeply, see other possibilities, turn my thoughts into actions, and activating others, are all in my Zone of Genius.
I am not saying all of this to brag, but as statements of fact.

As a child, I was able to do these things, just ask my older brother. He was amazed at how easily I was able to get my cousins to wash dishes for me. It would infuriate him. He thought I was being lazy and made me wrong for it. Here’s the thing. My cousin who did it the most actually loved washing dishes (to this day she loves grocery shopping, cooking, all the things with food ) and didn’t mind doing it.

>> Here’s what I want you to get from this story, we all have talents, gifts, and strengths. Learning and accepting them is the key to living in your Zone of Genius.

You are the person who has your experiences, coupled with your gifts that can deliver in a way that only you can.

If you want to discover your Zone of Genius, start by taking a look at these three things:
What people usually rely on you for.
– What came naturally to you when you were a child.
– Where do you expend the least amount of energy and you’re really good at.
